Rico is the school’s loudmouth. He gets out of detention after dark on Halloween night and finds the whole town under a spell: neighbours, shopkeepers and costumed kids shuffling down the street like zombies. Six streets stand between him and home. All he has is a football.
Kick or Treat is a side-scrolling beat ’em up in the spirit of the 16-bit greats, with one twist: you don’t punch anyone. You kick, lob, volley and juggle a ball that comes back to you, and the better your rhythm, the faster it flies. Chain enough hits and pull off the Pirouette, a slow-motion spin that sends the ball pinballing through a whole crowd.
Six streets. Six bosses. One very large Principal.
Every street has its own boss and its own set piece: a paperboy bike gang, a foggy park where hands burst out of the graves, a bus ride with a bridge that’s lower than it looks, a ferry crossing where zombies end up in the water. Somewhere in each street hides one of the classmates Rico used to bully. Find them, and they help him anyway.
It’s spooky, it’s silly, and nobody gets hurt. The zombies are just spellbound neighbours who need a good kick back to their senses. By the end, Rico might have learned something too.
Made with fine-grained Mega Drive style pixel art, 15 original tracks, three golden pumpkins hidden in every level, and English and Spanish from day one.
